Vimcasts morning workshop
Friday, 28 October 2011 from 09:30 to 12:30 (CDT)
Austin, United States
We'll work through a series of exercises that are designed to teach the best practices for working with Vim. The material is similar in style to the vimtutor, but more advanced. It will tie in with my upcoming book, Practical Vim.
To level the playing field, we'll be using bare Vim (not vi - we're not savages). You'll be asked to leave your .vimrc at the door. Why no plugins/customizations? Because Vim's core functionality is useful for everyone. Developers who work on a single machine can pimp their Vim to the max, but systems administrators often have to work with a vanilla installation. Being able to wield the raw power of Vim keeps you nimble. Though you may not realize it, some of your plugins are a crutch that slows you down. Cast them off, and I'll teach you to walk without crutches.
There are ten seats - first come, first served. Or if you'd rather, sign up for the afternoon session.
